Oh my, it has been awhile and I am so sorry! To be honest, my medications got the best of me. All last week I felt like absolute crap! The Cetrotide gave me the worst migraine of my life and I can't believe I even made it through the night! Haha I was exhausted all of last week, didn't get much sleep and was excited for the egg retrieval on Friday, May 19th. Scroll more to learn about egg retrieval!

That's my wonderful husband and I after my procedure! The procedure consists of going under full anesthesia while the doctor goes in with an ultrasound probe with a needle on the end (ouch) to retrieve the eggs that have matured. I have never been in an operating room but I was not scared at all, I was so excited to get to this stage and our nurses and doctors made it so easy! The whole procedure takes 12 minutes total! I was in prep longer than that!
They retrieved 27 eggs!! I've never heard of such a large number and if you have had more, let me know!! I'd be so proud of you! They injected 25 with sperm and 23 of them fertilized. We are so very blessed to have such wonderful numbers, we really couldn't be happier. The doctor will call us this Wednesday or Thursday to let us know how many have made it to the Blastocyst stage (transfer stage). They say about 30-40% make it to that point. We are then going to get 10 genetically tested and they can weed out the abnormal embryos from there. Let me tell you that we are in no way doing this to avoid an "abnormal baby", we are more doing this to slim the chances of miscarriage. To me, if you are going to spend this much to make a baby, you might as well make sure it works the first time. We are taking all the necessary precautions to make sure that happens.
The procedure really wasn't too painful. The first day just felt like really, really, really bad cramps. The second day was a lot better and just felt like bad cramps and by the third day, I was in pretty good shape. Sitting down and getting up is still a little uncomfortable but nothing you can't handle! The doctor prescribed Percocet, but I never had to take it. We also had the support of our parents making sure we had meals and helping me get around the first day and through the weekend. We had friends stop by and wish us the best and to see how we were doing and of course our God-daughter had to come give me some cuddles!
I am so glad that I am done with the first round of medications as they did not make me feel well at all. Let me know how the medications made you feel! We are all different and react differently to medications and procedures. Please let me know if you have any questions about egg retrieval and medications and I could try to help you out!! Stay tuned for how many embryos have made it and for our upcoming transfer!
Thank you for reading! xoxo
